Templemore Baths Heritage Space

Templemore Baths Heritage Space opened August 2023 following a remarkable restoration.

Belfast now has a new heritage experience rooted in the Victorian era, bursting with Titanic and Belfast shipyard history.  Located on Belfast’s Templemore Avenue (1mile / 1.6km east of city hall),  Templemore Baths is the only Victorian bathhouse still functioning as a public swimming pool on the Island of Ireland.

It now stands proud and lovingly restored. The Victorian features and ‘slipper baths’ along with the ‘minor pool’ form the core of the exhibition.

A team of expert local guides will help you dive-deep into this building’s fascinating story. You can also visit self-guided for free, 7 days a week during heritage space opening hours.

Original features lovingly restored include the ‘Major Pool’, now a fully operational swimming pool once again. The old ‘slipper baths’ are part of the heritage exhibition and tour along with the ‘Minor Pool’ which is also available to hire as an exhibition and event space. The former courtyard has been transformed into an attractive new atrium with the Courtyard Cafe at Templemore, offering scones, hot and cold drinks, lunch and snacks daily. 

EastSide Tourism staff manage the heritage space.  A programme of tours, workshops and events runs year-round. The local community, schools and visitors are all warmly welcomed. The restored ‘Minor Pool’ and old boardroom are both available to hire for events, meeting and conferences. 

On a visit to the space you can expect:

• to learn how local Belfast people used Templemore Baths to wash, swim and socialise from Victorian times, during the Belfast Blitz of WWII and through-out Belfast’s rapid 19th century industrialisation.
• have the opportunity to meet a local guide, watch videos, listen to audio and play games.

You can visit the Heritage Space free of charge (self-guided) Monday- Friday, 09:00-17:00 and Saturday-Sunday, 11:00-15:00.

Belfast City Council invested £12 million in the restoration of this iconic building and £5 million was provided by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
